I really learned a lot [about] recording music and being in a group and even writing songs. "We try to keep our lineup fresh, make sure we have credible acts to uphold the genre and as much as we can, share the culture of reggae and Jamaica within this environment," Damian Marley told Billboard. "All of the artists involved are proud to see reggae presented on this platform and that shows in the caliber of their performances. From the participation of the fans, to the production to the people who run the boat, you can feel reggae's positive vibrations."

I mean, just standing there on stage with him is always a treat. And he’s got an immensely great sense of humor. I think that's another reason why we can hang together after all this time because we've got the sense of humor to enable us to go forward. In lots of ways it’s not so different because we always wrote the songs together, we always talked about what we're going to do together.

WELCOME TO JAMROCK REGGAE CRUISE 2024

Their '70s girl group-inspired vocal harmonies echo, sooth and enchant as they cover poignant topics with feminist flair. Heavy D listened to Jamaican deejays toasting in Patois before he moved to New York and started rapping, so there’s a natural chemistry between Heavy and Cat as they trade playful Patois boasts that are crowned by Heavy’s barrage of mesmerizing, scatted improvisations. Essentially a dancehall party record, "Dem No Worry We" stands as one of the era’s very best. Jamaican rapper Heavy D had already released three platinum selling albums by 1992, so his collaboration with Super Cat undoubtedly brought greater attention to the Jamaican dancehall "don dada" who had recently signed to Columbia Records. He also extended his love and gratitude to his fiancée, Whitney Alford, and shouted out his Top Dawg Entertainment labelmates.

With its reputation for selling out, cabins for the 2024 cruise are available for booking, according to a release. Ms Sutherland pulled off a surprise with a cover of General Degree’s dancehall anthem, Traffic Blocking. She closed her set strongly with Wicked Fe Please Me and her biggest hit, Action. Then she delivered the boom with a cleverly constructed Bam Bam medley with songs such as Murda She Wrote, Toots’ original festival slow-burner Bam Bam, and Sister Nancy’s internationally known version of Bam Bam. Reggae songbird Nadine Sutherland started off her set with a rendition of I’ll Do Anything for You and surprised the crowd with a series of high-energy knee lifts as she deejayed parts of the song. She followed up that with songs like Wicked N Wild, Babyface and I’m in Love where she showcased her sparkling vocals and impressive range.

Upon returning to the boat we were bestowed with iconic performances from Sizzla and Bounty Killer. Dancing well into the morning, every five minutes the crowd chanted for the selecta to ‘WHEEL IT UP’, losing their composure each time the DJs suspended on the walkway above played a killer tune. On the 7th of December, I boarded Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas.

The six-day, five-night cruise will depart from Miami, Florida? S cruise port with stops in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, Jamaica before its return. This is one of WTJRC’s most-anticipated climatic events, where sound systems go head-to-head, tune-for-tune to battle it out for the championship title. The new dates will be December 7-12, 2022, sailing on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas. Damian Marley, Shabba Ranks, Burning Spear & More For Return Of ‘Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise’

It took me a bit of time, but then gradually I was able to get control of myself to a certain extent [with] drugs and everything. We're on a similar path really, which has been great because we're in the same boat in terms of lyrics and stuff. We always had a bit of R&B really, so it was actually fun to revisit that. We just hadn't done anything really quite like that for a long time. That was one of the reasons to work with someone like Sam Hollander [for the song "Rita Hayworth"] on The Roadside. We knew we could go [with him] into an R&B world, and he's a great songwriter and producer.

YG Marley’s ‘Praise Jah In The Moonlight’ Is Biggest Reggae Song Of The Last Decade, Says Jesse Royal

I love Jonesy’s book, I thought his book was incredible. It's probably one of the best bio books really. I think working with people that are super talented, you just feel confident.

Friday, December 8th 2023

We are sailing December 9, 2024, out of Miami, Fl to Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, Jamaica on a 5-night cruise on board Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas! Come experience some of the World’s top tier Reggae artists as they perform in multiple venues on the ship. In addition to the multiple live concerts there will be numerous Sound Systems blazing the vibes all day and all night throughout the cruise. The thing that stood out above all else during the cruise was the love and commitment that Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley has for his culture and community, which is returned tenfold in kind.

This year will mark the 7th installment of the Welcome To Jamrock Reggae Cruise, and we promise you, it will be huge.

An aspect I believe is worth mentioning is that all of the Main Stage performances honoured the art of the live band, making for an exceptional production, something that doesn’t always happen with events on this scale. Sometimes life opens up unique opportunities and when I was presented with the chance to visit her home country for the first time I ran straight toward it. This came at the hands of the ‘Welcome To Jamrock Reggae Cruise’ a 5-night cruise founded by Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley who, alongside his manager Dan Dalton, has created a celebration of the island’s rich culture, selling out every year since its inception in 2014, bar a brief hiatus during the pandemic. This year it consisted of three days cruising and two days docked in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios respectively.

Maybe not completely, but certainly to where we’re enjoying what we do and excited about it. Then when I got into my solo career, that was the fun of it. With someone like Steve, I knew what he could do. I could see whatever we needed to do, we could nail it.

Joined this year by such reggae icons as Burning Spear, Shabba Ranks, Shinehead, Maxi Priest, Stephen Marley and more, the five-day excursion blends reggae with the Jamaican culture, such as food and more, as well as yoga and other activities. There's a lot of fan reaction videos online, and I noticed a lot of younger women like "Rebel Yell" because, unlike a lot of other '80s alpha male rock tunes, you're talking about satisfying your lover. When we initially were making [punk] music, it hadn't become accepted yet. It was still dangerous and turned into a style that people were used to.
